Frequently Asked Questions

What type of treatment is available?

Any combination of the following may be applied:

How can acupuncture help me?

Traditional East Asian Medicine uses a very specific model to understand the body. It’s very different to the one used in orthodox biomedicine. The classifications of disease that are used in Orthodox biomedicine are not part of our paradigm, so we don’t rely on these for diagnosis and treatment. Our healing system enables us to bring the body back into balance and support your our innate healing processes. We are able to assist with a very broad range of symptoms and conditions.

What does a typical acupuncture treatment include?

A typical Toyohari acupuncture session includes the questioning and an examination of the meridians, hara (abdomen) and pulse.  Once a diagnosis is made, the treatment is implemented using both acupuncture and moxabusion. Treatments are individually based and vary from client to client and session to session.

How long is a session?

For adult acupuncture: initial sessions are up to 60 minutes and follow up sessions are up to 45 minutes.

For babies and children up to 12: initial sessions are 30 minutes and follow up sessions may be between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the condition.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the reason you are seeking treatment, your condition, the length of time you have been unwell, your constitution, diet and lifestyle.

A minimum course of three sessions is usually recommended, but this will vary depending on the above.

How long does it take to work?

As a general rule, acute conditions take less time to heal. The longer you have had a condition, the longer the rate of transformation.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes that can easily provide access to the forearms, legs up to just above the knees, the abdomen and the wrists.

Should I eat before a session?

It is highly recommended that you should eat at least a small snack 4 hours before a session.
