Toyohari Summer School

I’ve been travelling to Japan for Toyohari training since 2015. The training offered by the Tokyo-based Toyohari Medical Association is a deeply rewarding study experience, and each visit deepens my understanding of this style of practice. The teachers share their knowledge and clinical experience with generosity and care.

The videos below were taken during the 2017 Tokyo Summer School. You can hear me verbalising each step of the needling process, which reflects the structured approach we are trained to follow in practice.

Toyohari needling techniques emphasise precision and sensitivity. Practitioners regularly train with teachers and peers to refine their skills and maintain a high standard of practice.

In the videos, I’m needling the points Liver 8 and Spleen 9 using hoho (tonifying) technique, under the guidance of Murakami Sensei. There are around 400 people training in one large room, which accounts for the background noise.
